Change Dress Code at Bak Middle School

At this art school, we students are encouraged to show out personalities, and express ourselves in many ways, including what we wear. But the past two years at Bak I haven't seen any of that, for I have been called out multiple times for shorts that aren't "finger tip length" because my thighs are showing. One time in particular I can remember very vividly, my bus showed up late to school and at my bus loop I was stopped for my shorts. I ended up being even more late to class then what I already was. This school is located in South Florida, where it gets very hot and humid throughout the morning and afternoon. And many kids ride buses to and from school, many buses are not equipped with sufficient air conditioning, were at times I had to sit in the bus in my hoodie and leggings, sweating because I was afraid I would get dress coded for wearing a tank top that day. This dress code is targeted at girls and enforces us to believe that we should change our bodies to create an environment "suitable for learning" when it shouldn't matter what I'm wearing because in no way or form is my body a distraction, and if I am distracting anyone with my thighs or shoulders then my school should be teaching the students that I am not a sexual object that is a distraction. We are not asking to give us complete freedom in what we wear, but rather a more resonable dress code. One we can follow with out having to buy a new wardrobe or having to spend an extra ten minutes searching for shorts that are "acceptable for school".
