Tell Alex and Ani that Using Leather is NOT OK!

  • by: Christina Garcia

I was recently disheartened when I received an email introducing Alex and Ani's new Gabriel collection because of the fact that the pieces are made from leather. After seeing the positivity and compassion that comes out of and is put into their products, I would not have expected to see a leather line emerge. A few months ago, I may not have paid much notice to this, however, after recently becoming vegan and educating myself on the abuse of animals that occurs in many different industries, the leather industry being one of them, I feel compelled to try and reach out in the hopes of returning this company to an animal friendly one. Looking through the new collection, the designs, colors, and styles of the products are admirable. But knowing that these products were created by taking the lives of precious innocents stops me from wanting to buy one. Most people don’t realize just what goes on in the leather industry, including the abuse and torture inflicted upon the animals before their brutal death, as well as the fact that a lot of the leather imported by America may even be from cats, dogs, and sheep too, regardless of how it is labelled. This lack of knowledge on the subject in turn results in a blind consumption of animal products by the public. However, companies like Alex and Ani have the power to not take part in the abuse, but rather to work towards a brighter future for these beautiful animals, and we have the power to urge them to do so! Help me and help the animals to ask Alex and Ani to reconsider their Gabriel Collection and the leather wrap bracelets using faux leather instead!

To whom it may concern,

I have tried reaching out in the hopes of ending the use of leather in your Gabriel Collection previously, but it was proven unsuccessfuly. The purpose of this petition is not to attack you or your company, but rather to enlighten you of the necessity to use an alternative to leather.

My name is Christina Garcia and I am a loyal customer of Alex and Ani. I have quite a few of your products and have given your bangles as gifts many times. I love the thought put into each and every product you have crafted as well as the versatility of your jewelry.

However, I was recently disheartened when I received an email introducing your new Gabriel collection because of the fact that the pieces are made from leather. After seeing the positivity and compassion that comes out of and is put into your products, I would not have expected to see a leather line emerge. A few months ago, I may not have paid much notice to this, however, after recently becoming vegan and educating myself on the abuse of animals that occurs in many different industries, the leather industry being one of them, I feel compelled to try and reach out to you in the hopes of returning your company to an animal friendly one, as I know it intends to be, as clearly seen by the Prints of Love Charm Bangle.

Looking through your new collection, I admire the designs, colors, and styles of the products. In addition to the horror these animals endure, the mass killings of animals for their meat and their skin is a huge contribution to the degradation of our environment. This lack of knowledge on the subject in turn results in a blind consumption of animal products by the public.

However, companies like yours have the power to not take part in the abuse, but rather to work towards a brighter future for these beautiful animals.

The signers of this petition urge you to reconsider your new collection as well as your leather wrap bracelets. We are not asking that you get rid of it, but rather to redesign it. Most of your customers wouldn’t even think twice about whether or not it was made from leather, as long as it was still as stylish and durable, which it easily could be with other materials such as faux leather. By doing so, you would not only be helping animals, but helping your company become more positive like we know it strives to be, and helping your customers make more eco-friendly purchases whether they realize it or not. This collection directly spreads the message of “love and positive intention” as well as “message and communication” and a different choice in material will fully allow it to do just that.

Thank you.
