After receiving an email by National Geographic about Marine Protected Areas and its importance I realised it was important as well to enhance this area, as everyday marine life and biodiversity decreases. Great white sharks, killer whales, and other large ocean predators are disappearing at alarming rates. Sadly, 90 percent are already gone.

Across the globe, some 5,000 marine protected areas (MPAs) have been created. These preserves were established to safeguard the areas' wildlife and habitats—but results are mixed. Some MPAs are closed to all activities, but many are open for recreational use and others still allow commercial and sport fishing. Currently, less than 1 percent of the world's oceans are closed to fishing.

Less than 2 percent of the ocean is currently protected. Please sign this petition so this area will be enhanced, preferably to 10% at least. It is vital to preserve marine biodiversity and this is a way which has been proven efficient to give marine life a chance of survival.

Let's pressure our governments to act and to develop in a proper and efficient way this MPAs and to create mnay others!
