Declaration of Independence from Insurance Co

Declaration of Independence from Insurance Co

Target:
Senator Evan Bayh & Senator Richard Lugar

On June 25th, HCAN and their partners mobilized thousands of people in our Capitol to demand quality, affordable health care for all.  We told our Senators and Representatives that we can't wait any longer for reform that will lower health care costs, offer the choice of a public health insurance option, and keep the insurance industry honest.

The American public is now declaring its independence from the insurance industry, and we are signing up people across the country to tell Congress that we need an American solution to meet our health care needs.  It's time to have a choice when it comes to our health insurance.

We hold these truths to be self-evident;  we need health care reform that will provide:

·      Coverage we can afford;

·      Comprehensive benefits we can count on;

·      Choice of a private or public health insurance plan; and

·      Equal access to quality care

Dear Senator:

Insurance companies have taken advantage for Hoosiers across the state. The enclosed petition shows the vast support for taking a stand against insurance company abuses.

These grievances can only be solved by Congress, by passing health care reform that offers everyone the choice of a public health insurance option that will lower costs and keep private insurers honest.

16 Deplorable and Common Private Insurance Abuses:

1.      Insurers Leave Patients with High Out-of-Pocket Costs

2.      Insurers Deny Coverage for Medically Necessary Care

3.      Insurers Discriminate Against Women

4.      Insurers Wrongly Drop People’s Coverage

5.      Insurers Scam People Through Marketing Abuses

6.      Insurers Defraud Taxpayers

7.      Insurers Reward Employees for Denying Coverage

8.      Insurers Export Dollars Over State Lines to Help Affiliated Companies

9.      Insurers Reward CEOs for Bad Practices

10.  Insurers Deny Emergency Care

11.  Insurers Overcharge Small Businesses

12.  Insurers Collude With Some Providers to Drive Up Prices

13.  Insurers Prevent Doctors from Delivering Care They Feel Is Best for Their Patients

14.  Insurers Delay Reimbursement to Patients and Providers

15.  Insurers Deny Rural Americans Good Coverage

16.  Insurers Oppose Steps to Create Health Security

We urge you to join with President Obama and make the choice of a public health insurance plan a reality in 2009.

The people need health care bad our lives and jobs depend upon it. If we keep going the way it is right now with in the next few years the insurance co, and Doctors and Hostpitles will have taken every thing that the American people have. Insurance rates are sky rocketing every day and our pockets are all ready in bad shape. The only one that can STOP this problem is the American people there selves. PLEASE STAND UP.Sincerely. We believe in this country that children have a basic right to education, and so we provide it. Isn't the right to see a doctor when you're ill even more fundamental? We need health care, or at least affordable insurance for everyone, and we need it now.

Based on my experiences living in three countries with public health care systems -- Canada, UK and Spain -- I know that a public health care system, and not just a public health insurance option, can work in the USA. Right now the cost of health care is driven up by the outlandish profits of the insurance industry and the bloated bureaucracy that has evolved to deny coverage to folks who have been paying premiums for years. It's time to shoo the insurance industry pigs away from the trough and create system that provides quality care for all!!

This is one of the biggest problems in America today, and if something effective is not done soon it will just keep getting worse! Americans(both employees and employers) are tired of paying thru the nose for health insurance and getting little to nothing for their money! Insurance companies have too much control over both themselves and the medical care(or lack thereof)available to the majority of Americans! This situation is unfair, unhealthy, and UNACCEPTABLE!

A public healthcare option is our deal breaker. I have never missed a vote in my entire life and I guarantee I will actively oppose any member of either house that opposes a public healthcare option. Vote for a trigger free, nation wide public option or guarantee my opposition to your candidacy for any and everything.

Health care is a basic fundamental human right. Our current defective health care system is a huge basis of social and economic inequality. It's time to fix it so that everyone has access to safe quality health care.

The citizens of the USA are being held captive by the Insurance Industry. There is such desparity in coverage, rates and charges. Medical professionals are forced to untangle the system for their patients rather than doing patient care.Something must be done to stop this monster. It is out of control.

Our healthcare system is broke and bloated - everything people use as fearful excuses against a free healthcare plan has already happened and is happening daily and in greater numbers with our current capitalistic system. We need protections from the medical industry. We demand it as pivotal to human rights.

59% of all Americans suppport a government national health insurance plan. Congress must provide that choice so that the majority of Americans can exercise that option. If not, Congress is not representing the people who elected them to serve, but bowing to the power of the insurance lobby. Support the people, not insurance companies.

Health care as a basic human right. Americans should not have to forego basic medical care just because they can't afford it! It is our greatest shame as a nation that there are over 50 million people without access to affordable health care. Please listen to your constituents, and support health care for all!
