The 2 of November 2009, I received confirmation that a new group of dolphins have been trapped in Taiji and slaughter was due to begin at dawn the same day (Japanese Taiji's time). So they were killed in the most cruel and grotesque way.
And this happen every year... 1000 of dolphins are confined to deadh between October to March. Japanese fishermen, with the support of the Japanese government, slaughter them in a brutal manner.
The slaughters are conducted in a shockingly brutal manner repugnant to civilized people. Dolphins and whales are large brained, highly social animals respected worldwide. They are curious and friendly to humans when approached with care and respect. Many nations have laws protecting these animals.
The meat of the dolphins killed and sold for human consumption is highly contaminated with heavy metals and organochlorines resulting from industrial discharge into the oceans and contains mercury in excess of levels found in the Minamata catastrophe. Tests of dolphin eaters has shown levels 96 times what Japan's public health laws allow. This meat does not meet Japanese health standards and is often mislabeled as whale meat.
It's time to stop this madness. We demand relevant authorities and businesses to stop this brutal slaughter of intelligent marine mammals and protect the health of the people of Japan! We will deliver your signature to Faroe Islands Tourist Board but we need your signature as soon as possible!
