Stop taking food from inmates!

Hello everyone,
I use this site regularly to support the voices, ideas, and beliefs of others as they pertain to me.  Today I am writing  because as a family member of a loved one that is incarcerated in the Wayne County Jail System in Detroit Michigan,  I am in awe that during regular and/or  random cell search procedures that  officers are allowed to remove FOOD from an inmates posession.  FOOD, I'm not talking  about weapons or harmful or banned items, but FOOD!

Inmates are allowed to purchase these items during "store days".  Family members and supporters on the outside scrape up money to help their loved one in one of the smallest ways possible.  Sending in money for either FOOD or phone time.  Just like that, the food and the money is gone.  If an inmate hasn't been found with any banned items why is this act of punishment allowed?  PUNISHMENT is what it really is.  As though being incarcerated isn't  punishment enough.  It's  a form of PUNISHMENT to the inmate but also to those who love and/or care about them.  This act screams out un-humane!
Some may think prisoners- inmates- they are in there for a reason.  Screw them.  Your views are your own.  On the other hand, I believe that what's right is right.  Wrong is wrong.
Thank You for taking the time to read my letter

- Fischer, Prof. O.W.,Schauspieler -
