Stop the International Student Differential Fee Increase for 2011/2012

On April 19, 2011, a 10% Differential Fee increase was approved by the Dalhousie Board of Governors in addition to a general 3% tuition increase. We strongly oppose this decision and the process that the Dalhousie University administration took, which has left us feeling abandoned and discriminated against by our own university. The Dalhousie International community was informed 5 days before the Board of Governors meeting that our fees would be drastically increasing in the upcoming year. When presented with this information, DISA sent out an email survey about these proposed increases and services. In 3 days, DISA received over 400 responses (90% of which highly opposed the fee increases). The only way in which Dalhousie University can circumvent the governmental 3% cap on raising fees is if they can provide “unique circumstances.” Dalhousie University’s justification for the 10% Differential Fee increase includes proposed service improvements for international students. The majority of the proposed changes are trivial and unspecific.

Please support the International Students at Dalhousie University and show the university and the government that these students need transparency.
