End the Pit Bull Ban in Ontario

In the province of Ontario, there is an ongoing ban that prohibits the ownership of Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terriers, and American Pit Bull Terriers. This law is called “The Dog Owner’s Liability Act and Public Safety Related to Dogs Statue Law Amendment Act, 2005.” Not only does this law affect pure bred pit bulls, it also denies the right to own any dog that partially resembles these breeds. Many of the previously listed breeds born in the province currently are either shipped to a ban free city, sent to laboratories to be inhumanly tested on, or are euthanized immediately from birth. If you are found owning any type of pit bull, you receive a fine or jail sentence, and your dog is subjected to an induced seizure by animal control. A study by the Toronto Humane Society, who desperately urges to end this ban, shows that dog attacks haven’t reduced by much in the province, even with the current pit bull ban in effect. Every breed of dog has the capability to be aggressive. Instead of judging a dog solely by his breed, we should judge each dog by his personality individually. Please do not let several breeds of dogs suffer from the government’s misinformation and injustice. It is clear that this law is not only unnecessary, unreasonable, outdated, unfair and unjustified – it is discrimination against specific breeds of dogs. Please sign the petition, and end the cruelty today. Thank you for your compassion.
