Please join us by signing our petition asking Kelly Miller Circus to choose compassion over cruelty, and remove wild animal acts from their circuses and until such time, we won't attend. Wild animals belong in the wild, not forced to perform, give rides to humans, or be caged up and on display by those whose sole purpose is to profit off of them. The quality of their lives, their freedom to live as an elephant, llama, tiger, lion, zebra, etc., is more important than the dollar. These animals do not wish to be there, and if we don't speak up for these animals, this will continue.
Last week, Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey Circus announced the end of the use of elephants as part of their traveling circus performances by 2018. The United States is waking up to what numerous other countries know so well: the use of wild animals in traveling entertainment is archaic and cruel.
The wild animals you see in circuses are free to walk miles each day with their families (the bond between these animals is strong) they run and play and interact, they choose lifetime companions, and raise their families…instead circus animals are denied everything that is natural and important to them.
When they aren't working/performing, they live in chains behind the scenes, and for 38 weeks per year in Kelly Miller Circus's case, they are chained, caged and shuttled from town to town in cramped boxcars or trailers. These animals would never choose this. This is inhumane and no animal deserves to suffer like this in captivity. These are wild animals that should be free to live out their lives in the manner intended.
Please stop the tragic exploitation of these magnificent beings.
More progressive circuses like Cirque du Soleil dazzle their audiences solely with skilled human performers rather than miserable captive animals. Please stop the tragic exploitation of these intelligent beings.
We must extend our compassion to all animals, not just some (i.e. our pets), they all matter.
We'd like to respectfully ask Kelly Miller Circus to turn over their animals to a reputable sanctuary, which so many would be delighted to help with. There are plenty of heroic and extraordinary human feats performed by humans voluntarily that we would be happy to support and gladly line up to pay to see.
