Demand Government to Protect Net Neutrality

The internet needs to be regulated like any other utility. Everyone in this day and age needs to have internet access. It is not a question of IF they need it. Accessibility to the internet pervades all aspects of life, and it will destroy innovation and creativity of small businesses to have to pay non-standardized prices for their internet traffic. Stop pandering to the money, and start pandering to the people - contrary to what the money thinks, the PEOPLE are the ones you serve.

Net Neutrality, treating all data the same regardless of origin or service upon which it is delivered or served, must remain and be enshrined in law. "Common carrier" must be the definition of such services. Given Tom Wheeler’s opposition to such a definition and previous position as lobbyist for the cable and wireless communications industries, he should step down.

The White House should immediately remove Wheeler from his position as chair of the Federal Communications Commission and proceed to immediately seek the appointment of a non-industry lobbyist as replacement.

We, the undersigned, respectfully request:

1. The removal of Tom Wheeler as chariman of the FCC, and

2. The replacement of Tom Wheeler with an individual holding no lobbying ties to the telecommunications industry.

I'm writing to urge Chairman Wheeler to scrap the FCC's plan to allow Internet service providers to charge for preferential treatment. These rules would destroy Net Neutrality. I urge the chairman to throw them out and instead reclassify broadband as a telecommunications service. This is the only way to restore real Net Neutrality.

Furthermore, I am pushing for Chairman Wheeler to resign from his post due to his connections to the telecommunications business to prevent corruption like this from being proposed in the future.

Update #29 years ago
Chairman Wheeler says that he wants feedback before making this pivotal decision. There is a site set up a site where people can submit comments to the FCC: FCCDoYourJob.com

Rep Alan Grayson been in touch with the FCC over the past few months. In a letter to Rep Grayson, Chairman Wheeler acknowledged that the FCC has the legal authority to protect free speech on the internet. It's just about whether he wants to do so. So, let's ask the FCC to do what the President said it would: do its job.

Netflix is just one example of what will happen if this proposal is allowed to go through.
