Please sign and share this petition worldwide regarding this issue in Russia where a woman brought a young, wild cat on train and then the officers handling the situation ended up killing the lion cub. When entering the sleeper train, the woman claimed this was a domestic cat and the situation had police baffled. They certainly could have handled the situation much better, in a humane, safe manner, rather than killing this young lion cub! Moscow, Russia, train your law enforcers in the proper care of wild animals they encounter in a more humane manner rather than just killing them!

Recently a woman smuggled a cat onto a sleeper train in Moscow, saying that it was her domestic cat pet. However, most feared that the lion cub was not domestic at all. The animal's owner felt stressed about the situation and felt that it was necessary to urgently isolate the animal which began running wild. Police got involved, investigating and stating “The lion cub had first been kept in a cage but then the woman accompanying it for some reason let the animal out. When the animal, which was being transported without a muzzle, started behaving wildly, the woman couldn't control it. She shut it in her sleeper car and asked the train staff for help. The question is how she carried a 50kg, nine-month-old lion registered in travel documents as a domestic cat. Also, how would rail staff allow this “without proper cargo checks on board that was so dangerous for surrounding people.”

This "domestic cat" was an 80 lb. lion cub that was tranquilized by police in order to subdue it during the investigation and rescue of the animal. Too much medication was given to the lion cub and it eventually died. The lion cub was being transported by her 24-year-old owner, Lyudmila Kosovskaya, from Moscow to Surgut. Reports are that, at a stop in Yekaterinburg, police and veterinarians boarded the train and shot the animal with a tranquilizer dart, but the dosage proved to be fatal leading to the cub's demise. Something needs to be done in training personnel in how to handle such animals in a more safe and humane manner. This lion cub did not have to lose her life!

Yekaterinburg Zoo and Moscow Law officials - you need to educate all your personnel in how to subdue and rescue such animals as this lion cub found on the train without killing it. Obviously, the amount of tranquilizer was not monitored and too much was administered. What kind of vet could you be working with that does not know how to administer tranquilizers and other medications appropriately that is effective but safe for the animal. Enforce an educational program for all animal handlers and police law officials on how to handle such animals in a more humane manner that is not harmful to other humans and the animal involved. That is animal abuse and the person who killed this lion should be punished for inappropriate handling! She could have been subdued and removed in a safe manner for all concerned if staff and the vet were appropriately trained!
