A Strategic Partnership has been formed between The ArtsCenter and Kidzu to construct a new, 55,000 sq ft building in Carrboro, NC. The new facility would be called the Carrboro Arts and Innovation Center [CAIC] and would allow both Partners to greatly expand their education, exhibition and performance services to patrons from very small children through adults. Hand in glove with our educational components in this new facility are additional gallery spaces for local artists along with multiple performance spaces for local theater, musical groups as well as national performing artists. Of significance also is the predictable economic benefit to many Carrboro businesses.
There is a time-limited offer for The ArtsCenter to trade its current building and land for another nearby site which will be used for the new facility, with its old space used for another new hotel. The resulting hotel Property and Occupancy Taxes will finance a new, 25 year, $4.5 million Municipal Bond for the Town's investment in the Arts and a Children's Museum. The remaining construction funds would be raised by the Partners prior to the Town's financing being committed.
