Governor Walker: Stop Climate Censorship!

  • by: Aaron Viles
  • recipient: Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker

Following the horrible example set last month in Florida, a state public lands agency in Wisconsin has instructed their employees to no longer discuss global warming.

Global warming is the largest challenge that land managers are currently facing, but apparently, the Wisconsin Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL) thinks if they don't say it, it won't happen??!?

The BCPL manages revenue from federal lands within the state to the benefit of schools and communities. This decision makes no sense, given that much of their revenue comes from national forests, and forests are already suffering the impacts of global warming such as drought, fires and insect infestations.

Even worse, the staff member this 2-1 decision was focused on is BCPL Executive Director Tia Nelson, who was appointed the co-chair of a state panel on climate change by the previous governor. Nelson is the daughter of Gaylord Nelson, the U.S. Senator from Wisconsin who established Earth Day in 1970. A well known leader on global warming in the state, it's outrageous that the BCPL board would seek to silence her voice, going so far as to direct her not to reply to emails on the subject.

Add you voice to ours to tell Wisconsin Governor and Presidential hopeful Scott Walker that this is unacceptable, and demand that he act swiftly to reverse the board's decision.

Publicly condemn the measure banning “climate change,” recently passed by the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands, and demand that the three board members of the Commissioners of Public Lands reverse the ban immediately.
