Spain, investigate widespread abuse of farmed rabbits

Evidence of rabbit abuse has been witnessed on more than 70 farms in Spain where the animals face neglect and cruelty while living in horrid conditions. Let us speak out against the abuse of these rabbits and rabbit farms by demanding an investigation and placing new regulations into play in order to prevent such abuse in the future. Animal rights activists have come upon some horrifying footage of some disgusting conditions on rabbit farms throughout Spain. In their investigation, the activists went undercover at 70 various rabbit farms including many in Andalucia and four slaughterhouses. What they found was rabbits having their throats slit while fully conscious and others that have been dead for days still lying in cages with other live bunnies.

Investigation also showed animals in poor health or with injuries going untreated and others eating their own feces because of lack of proper food. Sick animals were often killed by farmers by hitting them over the head with iron bars, smashing their skulls against concrete floors or punching them.

Various restaurants worldwide would order their rabbit from these farms although many, especially those in the UK have already stopped as a way to protest the treatment and conditions of these animals. Animal rights campaigner Javier Moreno stated that “The public has a right to know what is happening in these places, something which the industry wants to hide." His belief and that of the organization is that the abusers of these rabbits deserve to be inflicted with high fines and long prison sentences.
