Have you ever wondered where you Coca-Cola gets their materials are from? Well I did some research on that and found out that the Coca-Cola you drink isn’t going to the people producing the ingredients. Most companies would try to find the cheapest way to get the ingredients or labor for their products to be made but Coca-Cola isn’t doing that legally. The legal age of a person is 18, but in El Salvador, children under the age of 18 work in farms and factories to get the sugar needed to make Coca-Cola products. Most children work on cutting the sugar cane, which is really dangerous. When researchers went to look at the all children working, they came to the conclusion that they all had scars and cuts all over their arms and legs! They say that the average age is 8 year old and they work more then the average number of hours as an American adult.
There are also other younger children working on planting green cane, which is basically sugarcane that hasn’t been burned. The leaves that can easily irritate the skin so many of the children get large blisters and rashes in the process. And lastly there are the carriers. These are the children who carry the cut sugarcane to the hose, on the way. They are exposed to the harmful chemicals released into the air like the smoke that is still on the sugar cane because they burned the plant the day before they harvested it.
In this petition I am trying to make Coca-Cola Company stop getting their sugar from these places with unethical practices , and for people to boycott buying Coca-Cola to force them to change this practice and spread awareness of this problem.
