We who live in, work in, and enjoy the Village of Nyack hereby petition the Nyack Village Board to enact legislation for a seasonal ban on the use of leaf blowers by landscapers, a limit on the hours and days in which they can be used, and a limit on the number of leaf blowers that can be used on a property at any one time. Leaf blowers emit gases that damage our ecosystem. They pollute the air we breathe with airborne particulates that pose multiple hazards to human health, especially for children, the elderly, and people with respiratory diseases. They can cause severe damage to our hearing and eyes. We urge the Nyack Village Board to adopt a seasonal ban on the use of leaf blowers by landscapers from December 1st through February 28th and from Memorial Day through September 30th; to limit the hours during the seasons in which they can be used; to prohibit their use on Sunday; and to limit the number of leaf blowers that can be operated to one leaf blower at a time on all properties smaller than .5 acre.
