Cambodia, Don't Kill Sun Bears for Soup!

Cambodia's gentle sun bear is she smallest bear in the world, with females of the species weighing as little as 44 pounds. Sun bears specialize in climbing trees, extracting honey using their disproportionately long tongues, and long daytime naps.

They are also in some danger of extinction because of hunting and habitat loss. Sun Bears are killed for bogus medicines and even to make "bear paw soup" from the bear's meat and paws which is considered a delicacy in parts of Asia. Throughout Asia's rainforests, the sun bear population has declined thirty percent in the last thirty years according to a recent Euronews.com article. An activist organization in Cambodia, Free the Bears, is asking for support in their campaign to save the sun bear species.

Tell Cambodia's National Assembly to prohibit all hunting of sun bears and to carefully monitor and prosecute exports of sun bear parts!

We the undersigned respectfully ask that you protect the sun bears within your dominion.

Sun bears throughout Asia are in danger from overhunting and habitat loss. In particular, they are in danger because of the superstitious belief that bear parts make good medicine. They are also killed to make bear paw soup, an immoral delicacy which should be outlawed throughout the world.

Please do your part to save these gentle animals! Outlaw hunting sun bears and exportation of their parts.
