The reason behind this petition is simple. Allowing professionals to box in the olympics takes away optimum goals for amateur boxing and is only going to shorten the amount of up and coming talent in boxing and especially in the UK. Over the years boxing has had tremendous athletes come through the ranks, through boxing such as Amir Kahn, Floyd Mayweather and Anthony Joshua. The step between amateur boxing and professional boxing is huge and by allowing the best professional boxers in the world to compete against the best amateurs in the world means the amateurs will not have a fair chance and will hinder their soon to be professional career. Just think, would Anthony Joshua be where he is today if he had to box the likes of Haye way too early on in his career? The Olympics has always been an amateur sport and should certainly remain that way.
