Please sign and share this petition in an effort to stop the endangerment and extinction of many species of birds like the sparrows, starlings and skylarks. Populations of birds throughout Europe have been on the decline drastically for the past 30 years. We need to encourage further scientific studies throughout the country in an effort to determine the cause for the decline in bird populations and save these bird species from extinction.

Currently, studies show that bird populations have decreased by over 420 million numbers in the past 30 years. Because of concerted conservation efforts, some bird species are surviving well while others are facing deep declines, especially the house sparrow, the starling and the skylark. The studies divided the bird groups into the extremely rare to the most common. However, lead author and publisher of these studies at the University of Exeter believes that “the focus up to this point has very much been on conserving rare species. That’s what it should be, in many ways, but the issue there is that if you’re not careful, you can spend all of your conservation dollars on just protecting the rare things."

Many of the issues seems to stem from conservation measures of the specific breeds and are further collaborated in these extensive studies. Species like the skylark will occur in most countries across Europe, with much harder efforts to bring in a rescue measure because it requires the rollout of broad, landscape-scale conservation measures. It has been proven that the most commonly cited reason for this vast decline in bird species is agricultural intensification which has squeezed out areas that birds need for feeding and nesting.

Researches further state that “people have tended to concentrate on farmland, but some of these species that don’t use farmland habitats at all are also declining. It’s a sign of wider scale environmental issues, such as increases in urbanization, and the only way we’re going to protect these widespread species is a more holistic approach to how we manage the environment in general." We need to encourage the scientist and researchers to continue their efforts in finding solutions that will save and protect the many species of birds throughout Europe. I ask that you please sign and share this petition on all your media sites so that we can be successful in saving these birds from extinction.

Royal Society for the Preservation of Birds & University of Exeter Researchers of Birds & Wildlife - There are many species of birds like the house sparrow, the starling and the skylark that are in danger of extinction and endangerment. Please ensure further studies and develop methods that will prolong the life, health and well-being of the many birds throughout Europe. Most issues seem to revolve around the preservation of habitat and their conservation. Possibly along with the European Fish and Wildlife Department, steps can be taken that will guarantee the birds long life, health and welfare for many years to come as long as they have the security of a comfortable habitat. Do whatever it takes to preserve and save the house sparrow, the starling and the skylark from extinction.
