Keep Wallkill Public Library's legislation intact!

Historically, attracting and keeping skilled people on Wallkill Public Library’s board of trustees (particularly to serve out their five-year terms) has been an ongoing challenge. The current legislation, in effect since 1996, enables us to reach out to a broader geographical area, within our district, to attract the skills and expertise needed for our board. This area includes all candidates whose children use our library in the Wallkill school district.

Narrowing the field of candidates to just Town of Shawangunk residents living in the Wallkill school district poses problems finding enough skilled candidates who are also willing and able to fill the nine positions on the board. Restricting the legislation would make this challenge worse, not better. Therefore, we choose to continue following the legislation as it was written almost 19 years ago and continue to seek out enthusiastic library members to serve on the board, fulfill their terms, and guide our library into an exciting future without limitations.

Please consider the following petition that seeks to keep the library's 1996  legislation intact. Thank you!
