The Federal Government and Environment Minister Mr Greg Hunt has decided to go back on their pre-election promises which was to send out our Sea Sheppard to the Southern Ocean during this whaling season, and instead have decided to send a A319 plane. The whaling season begins in January and ends in March, so we need to act fast.
The government spent $150 million of tax payers money to make the Sea Sheppard which is an ant- whaling boat specifically made for this particular purpose, though instead of sending it they have decided to waste not only tax payers money but also risk the lives of many whales and dolphins.
They say that the reason for this decision was to avoid conflict between whalers and anti whalers. Have they even considered how they could even address the whalers if they do happen to come across some, I'm guessing not much as they have stated that the plane is merely to monitor and Mr Hunt has said that it is so that both side know that the world is watching... that is not going to stop the whalers is it Mr Hunt, at least the Sea Sheppard would be able to force the whalers to leave!
Really the truth is more likely to be that they are willing to turn a blind eye as they seem to care more about the economic strain that asylum seekers pose rather then these remarkable creatures. The Sea Sheppard instead of being used what it was designed for, instead will be used to act as a tropical water taxi off Christmas Island, this is pathetic from our Government and we and the whales deserve better.
Please be the voice for the beautiful sea creatures and sign this petition to make Mr Hunt listen, we want the Sea Sheppard out ruling the ocean to stop and prevent the brutality.
