Make the October 20th 2016 OSSLT Count!

  • recipient: Minister of Education, Mitzie Hunter

We would like to bring to your attention to the fact that the decision to cancel the OSSLT results have upset a large portion of the students who took part in the testing. Hundreds of grade 10 students completed the test just to be informed that their hard work was of no value.

The OSSTF Federation knew their systems could not handle the amount of students after all test runs failed. They continued anyways, without fixing the problem at the expense of the students.

We wish for the Ministry to grade all tests written by the students, and those who passed to be credited for it.

Dear Minister of Education,

After attempting the Ontario Literacy Test online for the first year, over 4000 students logged onto the same server causing multiple errors and buffering for kids across the province. Therefore, on behalf of the majority of grade 10 students at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, we would like to illustrate how the decision to cancel the OSSLT has upset a large portion of the students who took part in the testing.

To begin, our parents always tell us “if you make a mistake, you must own up to it”. By grading our results and allowing the students whose grades met the standards to pass, you are demonstrating the traits of a reasonable leader. You may think you’re trying to be fair, but punishing students for a lack of preparation on your side is unfair to the students who took part in the testing. How many test runs did you really perform before releasing the official OSSLT?

The inconsiderate behaviour displayed by these actions has caused doubt in the mind of the voters, giving them reason not to vote for your party again.

Thank you for your time.
