Somyot committed no crimes.
Somyot was accused of allowing a writer in his newspaper to mention Thai monarchy and thus insulting the monarch. Freedom of press has already been violated by the Thai government. Lese majeste law in Thailand is an ancient law that has put a lot of people's lives under threat and many already imprisoned and a few killed.
