Cancellation of St Mark's Funeral Lunches by the PPC without any discussion with the parishioners.

After seeing the following message from the PPC it was clear that we could no longer sit back and allow this change to happen. We as parishioners have a right to have our voices heard and the ability to vote on this change. It is clear that the PPC is not working in the best interest of its parishioners.

Please send to all parishioners so that we can help the Funeral Lunch committee be re-established as it is the right thing to do.

Key part of an email sent by the PPC:
At their recent meeting, the Parish Pastoral Council met to review their decision to change the way funeral lunches are being provided at St. Mark’s. The PPC thanks those who took the time to share their concerns over the past weeks. These concerns were carefully considered, but the committee upholds the decision to terminate the funeral lunch program as it is currently offered. The PPC has heard that parishioners want to continue to be able to host a lunch after the funerals of friends and family members. We recognize that providing this meal can be a sign of our love for them. We want to reassure parishioners that, even though this service will not be provided by a funeral lunch committee, parishioners can choose to provide a lunch themselves for their friends and family members. In fact, the parish hall will be made available for free for families after a funeral to allow that to happen.

Update #17 years ago
Thank you, the signed petition will now be sent to the PPC and we trust that we will gain their support in this matter. The decision made by the PPC to initiate and follow through on this change without the promised meeting was a misuse of power. The PPC should be ashamed of themselves for not taking the time to listen to the Parishioners of St Mark’s. We trust this issue can be resolved within our own parish, by the appropriate actions of the PPC.
