Tell Comcast and the FCC: We Need Affordable Internet For All Now!

As we look forward to 2015, we remain committed to the millions of Americans without affordable Internet access and hope the FCC remains committed as well.

I have worked hard for decades to support my family of five, marking 27 years in operations at a Sacramento school district. After my two grown sons lost their jobs during the recession, they moved back home. And with my daughter in college, the household budget was stretched very thin.

My family had to decide which bill were critical to pay to make it through each month. This meant that we could no longer afford Internet at home, as the $60 a month Comcast Internet bills became too large for my family to manage. I felt badly because my sons had to go to the library to get online to look for work and my daughter often had to stay late at school to use the computer lab to finish her homework.

There are millions of hard-working people who, like myself, cannot afford market - rate Internet at home. Comcast can be a leader in helping to make Internet affordable for millions of low-wage earners in the United States. People with disabilities, seniors, non-English speakers, and people with incomes near the poverty line have particular hardship paying for Internet service. My family is not eligible for the low-cost Comcast Internet Essentials program because the company only offers the discount to low-income families with K-12 students on the federal free or reduced lunch program.

Now is the time to stand up to Comcast and demand affordable Internet for all at home!

Join me! Tell the FCC to require Comcast to expand their afforable Internet Essentials program to include people like me. Signing up for Internet at home should be easier and more affordable.

Thanks,

Louis Flores

Stand up to Comcast and demand affordable Internet for all.

I’m writing to support the 5 Recommendations of the California Emerging Technology Fund and more than 100 Partners so that more communities across America have affordable Internet to access knowledge and information from their home.

If you approve the Comcast-Time Warner corporate consolidation, please require Comcast to:
1. Expand offer to ALL low-income households.
2. Enroll 45% of eligible households in the next 2 years.
3. Donate to independent funds for non-profits, libraries, and schools to sign up households.
4. Report to an oversight committee.
5. Offer Internet Essentials as a stand-alone program.
