Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. but early detection of colorectal cancer can be successfully treated. A colorectal cancer awareness and screening program would help educate Hawaii residents about availability and coverage of these crucial screenings and provide screenings for those that are unable to afford it.
I urge my state representative and senator to support a bill that would provide up to $250,000 in funding to the Hawaii Department of Health for a colorectal cancer awareness and screening program. This will help promote educational outreach to underscreened communities and help provide screenings to those that need it the most.
