Stop Estate Sales Predators, Now!

In 2013 I made a trip from WA to CA in an effort to convince my elderly mother to move to WA. Mother was not ready for the move until 2016 when she broke a hip.. At that time, I contacted, Brian Chang, of International Gallery, in Anaheim, CA. He assured me (from 2013-20160) his fee was 30%. On the day he brought the contract for the estate sale, I had real estate agent, physical therapist, and care giver at the house. I mistakenly trusted Mr. Chang's word. I did catch one $ figure he wanted, if the sale did not meet his expectation. However, missed another critical add on. The contract read very differently than what he had discussed with me. His fee ended up being 70%.Much of the contract he did not honor. He has refused to provide me with proper receipts for items that did sell. He has refused to provide me with proof of advertising, he stated in contract he would do. I have requested he reimbursed us for the difference between the 30% he told us repeatedly he charged and the 70% he took for himself. That amounts to $747.40 He was not even at the house when the sale took place. His partner, Joel Ramirez, the "liquidator" of times that did not sell, was the one collecting the$ for items sold. I interviewed another auction house and found them to be just as predatory however, they were at least honest. It is the vulnerable, elderly (my mother is 91 years old) that get robbed of their possessions. Change needs to happen in this industry. This is a form of bait and switch. Receipts with the names of buyers and phone numbers where prices of itms sold for, can be verified. Proof advertising provided on request. A ceiling on how much estate sales individuals can charge. Standardized contracts for the industry. Mr. Chang claims the sale amounted to $1842.00, What my mother got was $542.00. The" liquidator" Mr. Ramirez (or was it Chang?) paid $300.00 for what did not sell. Of that $300.00 Mr. Chang took 70%. Included in items that did not sell, was a,Thomasville, pecan wood with hand painted accents, bedroom suite; in new condition. We need to stop this from happening to anyone else.
