Stray cats are dying an agonizing death by starvation after being sealed into basements in the Belarusian capital of Minsk in Russia.
Municipal authorities say they must isolate basements in line with Soviet-era health rules to prevent rodents from getting into the buildings. But these basements have been sealed without checking for the stray cats that often inhabit them and now these animals are permanently trapped without food or water.
The local authorities are doing nothing to rectify this horrifying situation and there have been moves to try and get them prosecuted for animal cruelty. But what is really needed is international pressure. The story has already recieved coverage in our National Press and now we need urgent action. Please help and sign this petition.
