Not only should he be punished to the full extent of the law, he should not have the poor animal returned to him; he should never ever own another animal the rest of his life.
A Mr. Francisco Castillo Cruz, age 68 from Texas allegedly dragged his Shetland pony behind his pickup truck, beating it occasionally in the head. When the pony fell, he kept dragging it, creating rash sores on its sides. This guy is getting charged with a felony for cruelty to a livestock animal, his pony, but deputies have not decided whether they want to return the animal to him - after he abused it! Really?
Reports were that Cruz was driving his pickup truck during morning hours near Dayton with the pony attached to the rear. Every time the pony fell, Cruz got out and beat the horse with his belt buckle. Deputies found the 5-year-old pony at Cruz's home, and noted that "most all of the hair and skin on the left side of the animal had been dragged off by the rough road surface." Additionally, the pony also might lose his left eye from damage done by the belt buckle. Cruz allegedly told cops he was "mad" at the pony because he wandered off of his property. Yet they want to put that animal back in that predicament!!

Liberty County Sheriff's Office - We commend you for charging this Mr. Francisco Castillo Cruz for abusing his Shetland pony and you need to ensure he is punished beyond the fullest extent of the law. What is baffling is that you are "considering" whether you should return this abused animal back to this horrible man! Not only should he not get his pony back, please ban him from ever owning, caring for or handling any animal for the rest of his life. Protect all animals from such a beast; if he did this to his sweet pony, you know he will do it to any other animal!
