More than a third of the adult perpetrators of the 43 worst mass killings since 1984 were U.S. military veterans.

Marine Corp-funded study shows that Marines with at least one combat tour who reported PTSD symptoms were six times as likely to engage in aggressive behaviors than non PTSD Marines.

The results of H4HUS Animal Assisted Therapy Programs for Veterans and Active-Duty Military are life-changing! That is why we, the undersigned, request your support of Hearts for Heroes.

Please sign this petition to ask Governor Cuomo and New York State Legislators to fund Hearts 4 Heroes in working with veterans and military personnel to help dedicated men and women who have served their country overcome the physical and psychological impairments they face.

The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo
Governor of New York State
Executive Chamber
NYS State Capitol Building
Albany, NY 12224

Dear Governor Cuomo:

Every day 22 U.S. military veterans commit suicide. This doesn’t count the men and women on active duty who take their own lives or the deaths ruled as accidents or the lives ruined by drug addiction and alcoholism. Men and women come to us with multiple traumas experienced during their military service including the experiences of war and, in many cases, the experience of sexual harassment, gender discrimination and sexual violence. (2015 DOD Annual Report and 2014 RAND Military Workplace Study) One solution in New York State, Hearts for Heroes (H4HUS), has served 500 veterans and military service personnel who have been able to regain their self-esteem and rebuild their lives without violence or suicide.

The equine and canine therapy programs of H4HUS are helping veterans adjust to life back home. Free programs match veterans and military personnel with licensed mental health care specialists, rescued animals and animal specialists. Participating men and women engage in nonverbal communication, problem solving, taking responsibility, relationship building and teamwork with the animals and their peers.

H4HUS was founded in 2013 by Key Burns to help end the suffering of veterans, military personnel and their families. H4HUS is saving lives: But Key, along with donors and board members who have helped to sustain H4HUS, now need New York State funding to continue and expand their work to 1000 or more veterans and military personnel in New York State.

Please find the funds to help pay for H4HUS programs and thank you for your support!
