April 2014: It has emerged that at least ten tigers have been butchered in China
for the entertainment of rich businessmen and officials over the last eight years.
The killings took place in Zhanjiang city in the country’s Guangdong province
and first began in 2006. The police have arrested 15 people over the killings,
who could face the death penalty if found guilty.
Police spokesman Long She said:"As far as we can work out they started operating
in 2006 and we have confirmed there were more than 10 tiger deaths as a result of their activities.
We suspect there may be more. Under Chinese law the tiger is a grade one endangered species -
and anyone convicted of poaching the animals faces the death penalty.'
It’s not clear how the tigers were killed in each instance, but it’s likely that they were drugged first
before being put on display for those watching and then butchered.
Horrific footage that apparently shows the gang electrocuting a tiger in a cage in 2012 was seized
by police and has since been uploaded to YouTube.
The tigers were killed simply as entertainment for officials and businessmen,
and as a way of flaunting wealth, according to China Daily.
"This is one of the most abhorrent cases that has come to light regarding the trade in wild tigers,"
says David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation TigerTime campaign manager, Vicky Flynn.
"It appears that the tigers were trafficked live from Vietnam
and killed in front of 'clients' to prove they were feasting on genuine wild tiger.”
We say all these people are quilty for the crime against nature and life and should be put down!
