Demanding an End to Nearby Blasting near Homestead!! Homes are being DESTROYED!! IT MUST STOP NOW!!

Our homes are one of our most cherished possessions! We take great pride in maintaining their overall beauty for the betterment of our community here in Homestead and Florida City, FL. However, when the structural integrity of our homes is being compromised by outside man-made sources, like those from Atlantic Civil, a nearby quarry located in Florida City, whom engage in continual blasting (1-2 x per week), we have a legitimate concern! Our properties are being destroyed, as a result of this heavy blasting! It is time to take a stand and fight to save our properties from further damage!

Please read below some of the documented history and approval of this blasting site for Atlantic Civil, from the Florida City Commission!

Florida City Commission gives final approval to a rock quarry’s expansion despite earlier protests by homeowners, regulatory agencies and the superintendent of Biscayne National Park against Atlantic Civil. (Posted on Sun, Mar. 30, 2008).

Atlantic Civil will develop a rock-mining quarry on 589 acres of land that is so far projected to be located south of Southwest 360th Street and east of Southwest 167th Avenue. Some 72 acres are already being mined.

City leaders said the economic benefit of the quarry outweighed concerns raised last fall by homeowners as well as environmental and park officials. The city will be paid about $277,000 a year by the mine's operators in order to offset the loss of taxes the city would have received from other uses on the site. For every ton excavated, 10 cents will go to Florida City. The 10-cent price will also increase with inflation. In addition, 20 acres will be given to the city to create a future park. Atlantic Civil will donate $100,000 for the park's development.

Amanda Garner (a Homestead Council member at that time) appeared at the Florida City Commission meeting to express her constituent’s concerns about blasting damaging their homes. ''I can't tell you how many times I've been contacted by residents who've had damage to their homes -- foundation cracks, brand new homes with cracked tiles,'' said Garner, who's no longer on the council. ``People can feel it in their homes when it happens.''

It is clear, that the Florida City Commission did not have the best interest of local homeowners at heart and all complaints were ignored and swept under the rug to line their own pockets. Again, the integrity of our homes today are being compromised as a result of this blasting! We cannot just stand back and be ignored anymore! Let’s take a stand and unite together to protect our best interest……..the place we call home!
