Australia – Propose Law against Skinning & Mutilating Live Sheep

  • by: Sue Lee

Australia is not the only country that is known for allegedly skinning and mutilating sheep while they are alive, without pain medications and enduring every abusive wound.  The wool industry appears to have gone to any lengths to provide product without much regard to the animals that actually provide the wool.  Consumers have no clue as to how animals are raised for their wool and the manner in which they are treated on these lamb/sheep wool farms.

PETA has recently conducted an investigation of shearing facilities across the U. S and Australia, with some undercover videos that have shown the laborers punching, kicking and stomping on the sheep.  Another person was allegedly also caught bludgeoning a lamb in the head with a hammer, while another twist the sheep’s neck until it was broken.  If all the findings are true, it is horrific treatment of these animals and a huge, serious concern. You can read the full results of the investigation at alleged abuse and cruelty of these animals at http://www.onegreenplanet.org/animalsandnature/you-wont-believe-what-goes-on-behind-walls-in-the-wool-industry/

Some of the sheep in Australia are raised to have wrinkly type skin which supposedly creates more wool on the animal.  But when sheered the animals often endure losing large chunks of their skin without any painkillers.  It is a process they call Mulesing and causes extreme mutilation and pain to the animals.  When the sheep no longer produce the required amounts of wool, they are shipped to countries without animal welfare laws where they are then slaughtered.

We need to help these animals by ending this cruel trade.  We are petitioning to place a ban on skinning and mutilating these sheep while alive and without painkillers.  We need to urge Prime Minister Abbott to take some serious steps in requiring more humane treatment of the lambs and sheep at these wool farms. You can help in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition on all media sites.  We need to work together to put an end to the abuse.

Tony Abbott, Prime Minister of Australia – Please implement some strict laws that bans the skinning and mutilating of sheep and lambs on any wool farms throughout your country.  Along with these laws, you need to implement some specific regulations that requires the gentle, humane treatment of these animals at these farms.  Along with these laws and regulations, ensure that they are fully and strictly enforced.  Please take immediate and drastic steps to stop the abuse and cruelty.
