Demand that food packaging and food containers eliminate toxic animal stearates.

  • by: Walter Guarino
  • recipient: The FDA, state and local governments and plastics manufacturers.

Dead animals such as roadkill, mad cows, euthanized cats and dogs and more are sent to rendering plants every day. The fats from these animals are used to release sticky plastic from molds and in the progress toxic animal by-products go into the plastic which leaches into the foods wrapped with plastic or stored in plastic containers. Renderers in the U.S. pick up 100 million pounds of waste material every day! These pounds of dead animal "meat" consist of feet, hands, heads, stomachs, intestines, hooves, spinal cords, tails, grease, feathers and bones. These pounds include an estimated 6 to 7 million pounds of dogs and cats euthanized with drugs that cripple their respiratory systems. The City of Los Angeles alone sends over 200 tons of those dogs and cats to a rendering plant every other month! These stearates have been linked to several types of cancer, autism, Alzheimer's and other diseases. We have go to stop this now! Food recalls are over 36 billion pounds ( a low estimate) annually and the renedering industry is estimated to gross $3.3 billion!

Update #19 years ago
Thank you all so much for your support. Every day, there are more and more articles about the dangers of animal stearates in plastic. Imagine what it can do to you in IV bags, surgical tubing, teeting rings, plastic cans (linings) and bottles (caps), etc. We need to put an end to this!
