President Obama has been pushing for automatic voter registration in all states, believing it would make voting easier and remove barriers to access. He says, "Democrats, Republicans, independents, seniors, folks with disabilities, the men and women of our military – it would make sure that it was easier for them to vote and have their vote counted." So far, only four states -- Vermont, California, Oregon and West Virginia -- have implemented the common-sense policy. Already, Oregon, who passed the policy in 2015, has seen a vast increase in voter registration.
A new bill, Washington House Bill 2682, would set up automatic voter registration in Washington during transactions with the DMV and other state secretary-approved agencies. Please sign the petition to urge legislators to encourage simplified voting and support automatic voter registration!
