“Demand to End All Pharmacy Trainee License, Now!”

To allow uncertified technicians to enter our field under a “Trainee License” is a disgrace to our profession. Pharmacy technicians deserve more respect than this. When companies’ posts help wanted ads that read “no experience necessary” (or noncertified technician positions) this is an embarrassment to our profession. Furthermore, this lack of respect has saturated the pharmacy technician market, diminished job security, lowered salaries, and placed technicians in hostile environments. You are not allowed to work as an RN (registered nurse) without passing the NCLEX so why are uncertified technicians allowed to work in our field for two years without any formal training. The Pharmacy Trainee License should only be a temporary license for students attending an externship at a pharmacy technician school (and these schools should also be accredited) Moreover, this type of structure brings relativity and importance to our certification.
