BAN WIRE BOTTOM CAGES

  • by: Robin Coon

It is no surprise that there are a LOT of companies that manufacture cages for animals, pet or agricultural, using wire bottoms for the purpose of 'quick, effective cleaning'. Supporters of these cages believe and argue that these cages are 'cleaner' and 'safe' for the animals contained in them. Studies have proven that wire bottoms cause 'sore hocks' of the paws/feet and bottoms of animals housed in these cage types. Also, they discourage regular daily cleaning of the animals cage because it's hidden in the tray that is underneath of the wire. Consequently, the urine and feces is contained underneath of the animal; giving germs and bacteria time to develop and grow; as well as for the ammonia odor that is found in urine to sit 'under' the animal in these cages until the human chooses to empty the tray. Animals become injured and potentially ill when housed in these cages. They are also not sanitary for homes as most animals contained urinate against the walls of their cages; causing urine to leak on the outside of the cage. There is simply no GOOD reason to continue allowing wire-bottomed cages to be used or to exist any longer. They are cruel to the animals who have to walk on the wires every day. Please sign this petition to add wire bottomed enclosures to the list of unacceptable housing environments for all animals!

Dear Animal Welfare Office;

I am writing this letter to bring to your attention something that I believe is unfair and requires attention. I would like to petition a ban on wire-bottomed cages in the United States of America.

Please motion this petition to add wire bottomed enclosures to the list of unacceptable housing environments for all animals!

Enclosed are valuable scientific data confirming the negative effects of wire-bottomed cages used in animal housing; rendering these cage types to be cruel under the Animal Welfare Act.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you have any questions or would like more information, I can be reached at 616-855-2901 robincoon83@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Robin Coon

There are thousands more references and verified cases of sore-hocks caused directly by housing animals in wire-bottomed cages. If you need more data, please inquire, I will find all the data you need.
