Speak out against bulls being speared, stabbed and set alight in the name of Fiesta fun!

Each year many thousands of animals are tortured in the most sickening of blood fiestas throughout Spain and this cruelty is replicated in Portugal, Mexico, Brazil and many other Spanish speaking countries. These fiestas are most popular during religious holidays and Easter Week with no apparent objection from the Catholic Church.
The "Toro de Fuego" for example, comprises fixing balls of tar to the horns of bulls then setting them on fire. To add to the animals terror, fireworks may be thrown at him or attached to his horns.
We need to call on Pope Francis to speak out and  send the clear message to clergy and people that the Catholic church does NOT endorse cruelty to sentient beings as part of religious celebration. There needs to be the clear message to all those involved as participants or spectators, that fiestas involving animals are events of sadistic animal cruelty. End of.

Most Holy Father,

Each year many thousands of animals are tortured in the most sickening of blood fiestas throughout Spain and this cruelty is replicated in Portugal, Mexico, Brazil and many other Spanish speaking countries. These fiestas are most popular during religious holidays and Easter Week. The Church's silence about these awful events sends the message that it actually condones them.

We call on you, Pope Francis, to speak out strongly against this appalling cruelty to animals in the name of religion as a matter of urgency. Tell clergy and people that, as things stand, these fiestas are nothing more than excuses for the most sadistic barbarity.

Sincerely yours,
