Implement Tougher Animal Cruelty Laws in Washington, DC

Animal cruelty, abuse and neglect is an ongoing issue and concern nationwide and unless laws, charges and penalties aren’t tougher, the problems will never stop.  Humans need to play a crucial role in being a voice for those who cannot speak or defend themselves.  Washington, DC does have room for improvement when protecting animals and you can read more on their laws, charges and penalties protecting animals at http://support.washhumane.org/site/PageServer?pagename=fightcruelty_hle_dccrueltylaws , http://www.dcbar.org/sections/environment-energy-and-natural-resources/cruelty06.cfm, and http://www.straypetadvocacy.org/PDF/AnimalCrueltyLaws.pdf

It should be common knowledge in present day that abusing any animal in any manner is cruel and unjust.  This is not a new issue and humans needs to be held accountable for any actions against these living creatures. My proposal is for a nationwide implementation of felony charges for any and all crimes against poor defenseless animals, ensuring that abusers receive longer jail sentences, higher fees, possible acts of community service hours and also being placed on an animal cruelty registry to be shared nationwide with anyone within the animal sales, care, breeding and treatment. Additionally, such abusers need to be banned for lifetime working with, caring for or owning animals for the rest of their life. There shouldn’t be any second chances because it should be common knowledge that abusing an animal, just like abusing a human is wrong and unjust.  There is never a reason to intentionally harm an animal.

The effort in this petition is to urge Washington, DC lawmakers to ensure that they toughen their animal cruelty laws, charges and penalties in order to make an impact and protect all animals from inhumane treatment and care.  You can help with this issue by signing and sharing this petition.
