Protest Against Five-Weekend L Train Closure

We are against MTA's plan to close down the L Train service for five consecutive weeks. We, both business owners and residents in the area, are deeply against this harsh move as it will put a halt to much-needed traffic during spring time.

I, the undersigned, would like to start a petition protesting against the MTA's plan to close down the L Train service for five consecutive weeks. We, both business owners and residents in the area, are deeply against this harsh move as it will put a halt to much-needed traffic during spring time.

For business owners like me, spring time is the time when people are recovering from the low business season during winter. During this peak period, business picks up due to the influx of tourists to Manhattan after the slow winter season. Last winter, most businesses have reported seeing their sales plunging by 20 percent compared to past winters. We were looking forward to spring that will bring in lots of tourists who tend to come from Union Square. However, our hopes were dashed with the recent announcement of the L Train service shutting down for five consecutive weekends.

On behalf of business owners and residents in the area, I urge the MTA to reconsider shutting down the service even if it IS for vital maintenance. Perhaps a postponement is a better alternative.

The undersigned,
