Bring Attention to Columbia's Mishandlings of Sexual Assault to Protect All Students

All details of the the following story can be found on my YouTube channel "Dexter Golbourne" in the Playlist titled "My Story". Any supplementary documents can be found in the descriptions of each of said videos.

Hi. I'm Dexter Golbourne, formerly an attendee of Columbia University (CC'15). In 2015, my significant other and best friend (another Columbia University student) succumbed to False Memory Syndrome, a mental illness that warps its victims memories and personality until they believe that they are victims of traumatic events that never took place. Due to her drug usage, my overwhelmingly blinding love for her and, most importantly, the influence of a Columbia University therapist in a campus environment that was largely saturated with anti-sexual assault dissidence, my friend grew to believe that I had violently raping and otherwise sexually assaulting her for the entire duration of the four years that we spent in college together, even in entire year spans and in places in which we weren't remotely sexual. Consistent with the nature of False Memory Syndrome, she suffered grievous trauma as a result of the beliefs and because of Columbia University's utterly irresponsible and corrupt handling of the ensuing gender-based misconduct case, she still believes these terrible events took place, in spite of how loving our relationship was prior to this.

Despite the grief caused by this tragedy and my desperate attempts to do everything I could to cooperate with the University to find proof (notably surveillance footage) that would not only exonerate me, but help prove to my best friend that her memories are false, the University did not speak to me during the case. A lawyer that they assigned to me during the case not only manipulated me, who at the time had never had any contact with judiciary/legal systems, into not submitting any of the mountains of evidence that our relationship was entirely non-violent, but into signing away my rights to a hearing and agreeing to sanctions (i.e. mark of expulsion on my record and transcript, and ban from all Columbia University properties) in exchange for my degree, which was leveraged over me. They cared nothing of my attempts to save my friend; they were willing to expel me and continue to treat her like a rape victim to placate her and her family in order to protect their reputation, even if it meant reinforcing these false memories of rape in my best friend's mind. In other words, Columbia was willing to expel an evidently-innocent man and subject a woman to further memories of traumatic rapes that never happened to protect their money. Even after I made appeals in which my friend clearly demonstrated her mental instability, Columbia upheld their decision to save face.
This sort of corruption is precisely what exacerbates the issue of sexual assault on college campuses.

My case proves that even in gender-based misconduct cases where it is 100% clear that one party's claim is true and the other's is false - even in cases in which feigning support for one party will unequivocally damage both of them - Columbia will lean towards whatever side will ensure the most profit for them, not the most justice or the greatest wellbeing for all parties involved. It is highly likely that this was a great threat to women previously, who would report sexual assaults and would have their cases dismissed and hidden in order to protect the reputation of institution. Because of the efforts of other activists, this danger been brought to public light, but at the cost of being reversed to men; Columbia clearly will not hesitate to expel any men who are accused of sexual assualt in order to stave off any negative attention to their past mistakes, in spite of the veracity of the claims. I fear that the sway of the sociopolitical climate will always guide Columbia's decisions in these matters, as they will seek to maximize public opinion and, therefore, income at the expense of ethicality. Ultimately, when too many people complain of rapes on campus, all men who are complained against will be targeted and expelled no matter their degree of guilt and when too many men complain of being targetted (and they will if we don't break this cycle), women's complaints will again be left unheard and swept under the rug, notwithstanding the degree of truth to their claims. Unless we stop them, Columbia will always pick their income and endowments, not the lives of their students or morality.

I have already protested their corruption by creating YouTube videos to let as many people as possible know my story and posting fliers/distributing fliers around their campus that can direct students to the story. However, Columbia, knowing full well that all that I say is true, has done everything that they can to silence me. They have even had unjustly imprisoned for five days by fabricating charges of aggravated harrassment and claiming that I threatened its employees with martial arts (I have done no such thing and the letter that they are claiming is threatening, like every other correspondence between them, is available to be viewed on my YouTube channel). I will not be deterred by any of their threats. If there is even the slightest chance that I can engender more understanding between those who have been or fear being sexually assaulted and those who have been or fear being falsely accused of sexual assault - if there is a chance that corrupt universities like Columbia can be held accountable for choosing to contribute to the problem instead of the solution for the sake of greed - , then I will go to jail again, especially if all of this results in a system that can can protect as many students as possible. I will do whatever it takes to prevent as many people from undergoing what me and my friend did.

Please help me bring attention to Columbia University's intentional mishandlings of these cases so that more students can become involved in crafting a solution to protect people from sexual assaults AND false accusations. If Columbia and other universities are allowed to continue in their ways, whichever way the political climate swings will determine what decisions are made by University judicial systems. However, If we work together, I know that at the very least, we can prevent people who are UNDENIABLY rape victims from being denied justice and those who are UNDENIABLY falsely accused from having their lives upended by greedy bureaucrats. I promise not to stop working until we have success.
