Say NO to Keystone XL 2.0 Say YES to Renewable Energy Trust Fund

  • by: Robert Migliori
  • recipient: Presidedent Barack Obama, Senator Ron Wyden

  Mr. President, Senator Wyden:

We the People, along with environmental leaders from the Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, the Environmental Defense Fund, the National Wildlife Federation, Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth, urge you to REJECT the Keystone XL pipeline project.

We propose, instead, an alternate approach.

We urge you to create a Renewable Energy Trust Fund (RETF).
We can take charge of our own energy future, collectively and personally, by contributing individually to a Renewable Energy Trust Fund which can help us develop community energy facilities. Such locally owned facilities will:

·       Contribute to long term employment and manufacturing opportunities,

·       Offset CO2 emissions from existing coal and gas plants, and

·       Strengthen national security by creating many small power generation sites which can continue to operate in case of a national emergency.

A small charge on everyone's electric bill would fund the RETF which will help pay for power generation projects initiated by any individual, business, tribe or non profit organization which is also a utility customer.

The RETF will fund renewable energy projects for a home, a farm or a factory up to 20 megawatt capacity.

We urge you, Mr. President, to direct the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to create the Renewable Energy Trust Fund which we, the citizens, will fund and use to build tens of thousands of new solar and wind energy projects -- energy projects that will complement smart grid technology and make Keystone XL unnecessary.

Dear President Obama and Senator Wyden:
We ask you to block the Keystone XL pipeline project. This and similar projects contribute to CO2 pollution and global warming. We ask you to consider alternative policies such as the Renewable Energy Trust Fund which can form the basis for a national feed-in tariff for renewable energy projects which will make Keystone XL unnecessary.
