Stop the  killing of wolves in Slovenia Mr. Bogovic

Please take a moment to read some facts about Wolf Hunting. Then we beg of  you to end this mass killing of wolves. It starts with our voices, and ends with yours.

" The culling of wolves to date has been proven to be a completely ineffective way of preventing livestock depredation (shown in Slovenia as well as in scientific research studies in other countries). The number of culled wolves is not correlated with a reduction of attacks on livestock, and in fact may even increase them: due to the increased difficulty of hunting wild prey (deer and boar) after culling and the associated destruction of the pack’s social structure, wolves will be more inclined to go after easier prey such as sheep when flocks are not adequately protected. The use of livestock guardian dogs and enclosing flocks at night inside electric fencing have been demonstrated to be an extremely effective way of preventing livestock depredation by wolves (producing an almost 90% reduction in losses!). The solution is thus quite simple – from among roughly 3000 sheep-farmers located in the territory inhabited by wolves, a large proportion of government payments for damage caused by wolves has gone to only 7 farmers. All but one of these seven have refused to accept equipment for the better protection of their flocks offered to them free of charge. Let’s repeat that: from a total of 3000 farmers, most of the damage is incurred by only seven of them, and six of these seven have REFUSED to accept the only means of flock protection demonstrated to be effective even when it was offered to them free. Unacceptable, immoral, and, I dare say, financially manipulative. The market price for livestock is lower than the compensation paid out by the government when a farmer loses an animal to wolves. Here we have the crux of the matter: a few individuals are usurping taxpayer money, even as their own flocks and Slovenia’s wolves are the ones to suffer. Can you imagine how a flock of sheep feels, knowing that they will be visited by wolves that night, unprotected by fencing or dogs? Do you know what the consequences are? The flock is highly stressed, causing pregnant ewes to abort and prematurely drop their lambs. Congratulations, gentleman, congratulations!"
