Tell Europe to Save Oak Trees

It turns out the mighty oak is one of earth's best defenses against climate change. Recent research suggests that replacing broad leafed trees, such as oaks, with pine and conifer throughout Europe is an important contributor to climate change. Pines and conifers are preferred by tree farmers because they grow fast, and oaks grow slowly. But here's the problem: conifers absorb much more heat than their broad-leafed counterparts.

Please add your name to this petition. In doing so, you are asking the European Parliament to establish a program to save remaining broad-leaf trees and replace harvested conifers with native broad leafs.

To the European Parliament:

Conifers and pines are easy to grow and they grow quickly. But you are now paying the price for clear cutting your oak trees to make way for quick profits. Science shows that oak trees and other broad-leaf tree species do much more to regulate the planet's climate. By contrast, pines and conifers pull down more heat and contribute to climate chaos. Please establish a program to save remaining broad-leaf trees and replace harvested conifers with native broad leafs.
