The United States Department of Justice wastes tens of billions of dollars every year funding grant programs and an obese bureaucracy that is the Department of Justice Office of Violence Against Women. Domestic violence is a serious matter--it occurs in one tenth of one percent of the population per annum. Its perpetrators are about equally men and women. That men commit such crimes at any higher rate than women is a myth--an insidious one. Fact is domestic disputes rarely--rarely--devolve into violence, but when they do, men and women "start it" at about equal rates.
Yet DOJ OVW programs ignore the fact that women are often to blame, and invariably a man in a dispute is arrested and charged with a crime. In fact, the current policy often leads to an increase in violence as men--homeless, jobless, and falsely accused--may resort to "taking the matter into their own hands" outside of the law. The effects can be deadly.
A justice system must be blind. OVW/VAWA/DOJ is not. It's time to stop the abuse, prejudice, waste, and bias.
