A Statue of Bilbo the Lifeguard Dog for Penzance, Cornwall, UK

  • by: Bilbo's friends
  • recipient: People of Penzance and Cornwall, and Cornwall Council

Bilbo The Lifeguard Dog must not be forgotten. This iconic beautiful 12 stone chocolate Newfoundland surf rescue dog, born near Penzance, and who trained and worked as a lifeguard dog on Sennen beach sadly passed away aged 12 years old this year. Bilbo visited many schools in Cornwall, and met thousands of people of all ages over his lifetime - Bilbo's ability to engage people's attention and especially children and help teach them about staying safe at the seaside and near water, was amazing. Bilbo was voted Pet Hero of the Year. Bilbo won Working Dog of the Day at Crufts. Bilbo was on TV, the Richard & Judy Show, and more. Bilbo was the only dog to ever swim the annual 1 mile Newlyn to Penzance race. Bilbo was loved by all who met him. Bilbo was beautiful. Bilbo was a one-off. By keeping Bilbo's memory alive that will help everyone remember to stay safe whilst at the beach and swimming in the sea, and by water in general. Keeping Bilbo's memory alive can still help reduce the incidence of drowning in water, which in the UK still stands at around 400 deaths per year. A statue of Bilbo on Penzance promenade, looking out over the sea at Mounts Bay will be a reminder for everyone to stay safe near water always. And a statue of Bilbo will bring thousands of visiters to where it stands in Penzance. PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION, AND PLEASE ASK YOUR FRIENDS TOO. Thank you so much. In loving Memory of Bilbo The Lifeguard Dog xxx
