U. S. Congress – I strongly urge you to oppose bill H. R. 2406 that would undermine wildlife conservation and the Endangered Species Act (ESA), along with the wolf delisting amendment.  Such a legislation contains provisions that threaten elephants and other imperiled wildlife and their habitat and are also harmful to wildlife conservation efforts. Additionally, bill H.R. 2406 would block recent efforts by the Administration and the Fish and Wildlife Service to crack down on ivory trafficking and the sale of illegal ivory within our borders. It would also undercut the recent commitment between the United States and China to fight wildlife trafficking and halt the illegal ivory trade in both countries.  Other damaging provisions include destruction of public land protection, undermining the ESA and weakening of protection for congressionally designated wilderness areas, opening pristine lands to road construction, motorized vehicles and other activities that undercut the purpose of wilderness areas. The current proposed amendment would strip federal protection for gray wolves in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Wyoming. If enacted, H.R. 2406 would have devastating policy implications for wildlife and habitat. All proposed amendments would be harmful and destructive to numerous wildlife and the effective of the ESA.  It is crucial that you vote “NO” on the proposed bill H. R. 2406, opposing any amendments that would undermine the Endangered Species Act.
