Tell Parliament: Protect LGBT Students!

As Members of the Provincial Parliament move toward much-needed anti-bullying legislation, conservative and liberal members have been sidetracked by a rigorous debate concerning Gay-Straight Alliances in schools.

Two separate anti-bullying bills, Bill 13 and Bill 14, have distracted the MPPs from the vital protection of LGBT students.

The liberal and conservative parties have sent both of their bills to public hearings, but while the liberal party backed the conservative bill, the conservatives refused to back the liberal bill.

The clash of political parties has resulted in LGBT youth remaining unprotected in schools and conservative Canadian officials making absurd statements, such as calling the liberal bill a "radical sex-education program."

Despite any political hodge-podge, MPPs should be focused on the students of Ontario rather than the advancement of their political parties.

Tell Canadian MPPs: Put aside your difference and protect LGBT students!

We the undersigned urge you to integrate Bills 13 and 14 to continue to provide the utmost protection and support to LGBT students in Ontario.

Though each party may have its own ultimate goals, the needs of LGBT students are far more important than any political clash.

A compromise must be made regardless of political agenda and every MPP must look forward in this legal process.

We ask you to integrate Bills 13 and 14 and make a public statement regarding your new efforts to come to a mutual understanding.
