On July 18, 2014, Addie, a sweet dog rescued four years ago from the Sullivan County Animal Shelter, was a victim of sexual abuse that left her with a 50/50 chance of survival and required surgery at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Dr. Gary Del Gaudio of Ferguson Animal Hospital in Bristol, TN, stabilized Addie and had the foresight to collect the crucial DNA to prosecute James Michael Foran, the registered sex offender who raped Addie.

I would like to offer my heartfelt appreciation for your role in the case of Addie, a patient of which I am sure you know well, not only in saving her life and continuing to aid her in recovery, but for your professionalism and foresight to recover the crucial evidence that led to the arrest of James Michael Foran. Without this evidence, it would be much more difficult, if not impossible, to prosecute this criminal.

I appreciate your work compassionately caring for animals, and I hope this is the only case of this sort that you encounter.
