Allow Students To Listen To Music

The school system doesn’t allow students to bring their devices and even threatening to confiscate phones if a silhouette of the device is seen in the students pocket. I personally think it’s ridiculous, studies have been conducted where students tend to focus more and are more quiet in the classroom when they’re occupied with their music and their class work, the music won’t make a student not participate, the student who chooses not to participate probably wasn’t planning on it anyway. Students with ADHD, Anxiety and like disorders do a lot better in a school environment when they have music. Music can steady the heart rate and make the white noise that is school quieter and less stressful for students. I’m a senior in high school with anxiety so I can speak first hand in saying school is a highly stressful environment and music has helped me get through it since 7th grade. A solution is just allowing students to listen to music while doing their work, maybe get the teachers to explain before they’re doing class work not to have devices out (as a student and witnessing this I can tell you that this worked every time) To allow the teacher to explain the classwork and give verbal directions. Then as the teacher is done with the students attention they can then take out their phones and listen to music ONLY. The phones are to be put away unless google or a calculator is needed because let’s not forget how useful our handheld computers are. But for students to ask permission before doing so first. Taking away property that some students have spent hundreds of dollars on is theft and completely ridiculous.
